Offshore Fishing

Offshore fishing with us is the real thing. We navigate out 10 to 40 miles offshore for some of the most exciting fishing you'll ever encounter on a fishing trip when timed correctly.

CobiaCobia
These big, strong, fighting fish migrate north to south along the warm waters of the Georgia coast. They range in size from 15 to 30 pounds, and 50-pounders are not uncommon. Cobia go by a variety of names, including Flat-Head, Ling, and Black Kingfish. Cobia like anything that casts a big shadow, so they often run with schools of Mantas or right whales and can be seen in the company of giant sea turtles. The Mantas tend to stir up the bottom of the sea, disturbing bait-fish and crabs, which Cobia like to eat. Cobia is a great-eating fish.

Red SnapperRed Snapper
This good eating fish is plentiful while in season off the coast of Georgia in the Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island area. The Brunwick Georgia Snapper Banks are very well known for this species. Hundreds of Red Snapper are caught each season by Anglers on the Georgia Coast due to their abundancy.

SheepsheadSheepshead
Fishing for this nearshore/offshore fish is challenging when fished with light spinning tackle and braided fishing line. They commonly weigh in at 2 to 4 pounds, but many are caught weighing over 8 pounds. They are similar in fight ability to, and have the table quality of Red Snapper. Most anglers of any age will enjoy fishing for Sheepshead here on the Georgia Coastal Offshore Waters.

GrouperGrouper
There are many varieties of Groupers. Gag and Scamp Grouper are the most common here. These local species can grow to weights in excess of 30 pounds here on the Georgia Coast. They are excellent eating fish and offer anglers the challenge of a lifetime as they struggle to stay on the bottom, the angler struggles to maintain a steady hand while catching the fish.

Black See BassBlack Sea Bass
This fish is found offshore at depths from 20 - 185 feet. They like to hang around close to the sea floor, congregating around rocks, reefs, and wrecks. Sea Bass weigh about 1½ lb on average, with the world record at 9 lb 8 oz. A Sea Bass above 5 lbs. is considered large. They feed on crab, small lobster, shrimp, mollusks, small fish, herring, menhaden, squid, and bottom-feeding organisms. They are arguably one of the best eating fish in the ocean.

BarracudaBarracuda
The 'cuda is an exciting game fish to catch. When hooked, they often leap 10 feet into the air and come crashing down into the water in an effort to throw the hook. Great Barracuda can be found from 5 to 30 pounds, with record-holders at about 85 pounds. Sport fishermen prize this violent fish, but they can be a bit of a nuisance when they attack a fish that you have caught and bite him off cleanly at the neck, leaving you with nothing but the head. Barracuda can be fished in Georgia Waters as close as 12 miles offshore of St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island.

Spainish MackerelSpanish mackerel
This is mostly a shallow water species, found most often in a depth of 10 to 90 feet. As water temperatures rise, this species heads north then returns as colder seas set in. They like to feed on small fish, shrimp, and squid. This fish is fun to catch and is a wonderful eating fish.

AmberjackAmberjack
Amberjacks have a famous and well-deserved reputation as battlers. They are big and very powerful and can leave even the hardiest fisherman worn out. They like to hang around in mid-depths of 45-180 feet of water. When hooked, they leave no doubt in your mind that they do not want to leave their natural habitat. They can run from 25 to 100 pounds, so they might have a weight advantage over younger fishermen. Contrary to popular belief, Amberjack are a great eating fish.
